Texon Corporation Completes Installation of 12 Vicon Valkyrie Cameras at SRMC Chennai for Cricket Bowling Analysis
Chennai, India — Texon Corporation is proud to announce the successful installation of 12 Vicon Valkyrie VK8 motion capture cameras at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science (SRCSS), SRMC Chennai — a major milestone in advancing sports biomechanics and performance analysis for cricket athletes.
SRCSS, part of the world-class Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, is recognised as one of Asia’s leading sports science and biomechanics research centres. The facility supports multidisciplinary athlete development with modern labs, advanced sports medicine, physiotherapy, and nutrition services — and already features an extensive motion capture ecosystem, including Vicon systems used for cricket bowling action analysis and biomechanical testing.
Why This Installation Matters
Cricket bowling is a high-velocity, complex movement requiring detailed biomechanical insights to improve performance, reduce injury risk, and ensure compliance with bowling action regulations. Traditional video analysis can struggle to capture subtle joint rotations and rapid movements, especially in fast bowlers. The Vicon Valkyrie VK8 technology provides industry-leading motion capture fidelity with high frame rates and precision, enabling researchers and coaches to analyse these movements with unparalleled clarity.
The VK8 model combines an 8 MP sensor with up to 500 FPS native capture speed, offering the ideal balance of speed, resolution, and field coverage for sports applications such as cricket bowling, gait analysis, and high-velocity athletic motion.
Installation Overview
- System: 12 × Vicon Valkyrie VK8 cameras + 2 FLIR Video Camera
- Location: CSS Biomechanics Lab, SRMC Chennai
- Application: Cricket bowling action capture and analysis
- Goal: Capture rapid motion data with sub-millimetre accuracy for performance profiling, technique improvement, and injury prevention
The installation was carried out in close collaboration with Vicon OEM engineers Jinali and Adam Felipe, who provided in-depth demonstrations and training to the SRMC team, highlighting the latest features of Vicon software and best practices for capturing and analysing high-speed cricket bowling actions.
Celebrating a Benchmark Achievement
After the successful completion of the installation and training, Texon Corporation and the SRMC team cut a cake to commemorate this milestone, marking a memorable benchmark in India’s sports science ecosystem. The celebration reflected the strong partnership between Texon Corporation, Vicon, and SRMC in driving innovation in cricket performance analysis.
Technology That Delivers Performance
With the new Valkyrie VK8 cameras, SRMC can now:
- Analyse joint angles, angular velocities, and biomechanics with high precision
- Detect subtle technical deviations impacting performance or injury risk
- Provide evidence-based feedback to athletes and coaches
- Conduct longitudinal research to monitor progress over time
This upgrade enhances SRMC’s ability to track high-velocity actions, ensuring reliable, accurate, and repeatable motion data for elite cricket athletes.
Texon Corporation’s Commitment to Excellence
Texon Corporation continues to deliver world-class motion analysis solutions to India’s sports science, clinical, and research communities. By combining expert installation, OEM support, and ongoing training, we ensure that every technology investment translates into actionable insights and better outcomes for athletes and researchers alike. We congratulate the team at SRMC Chennai on this strategic upgrade and look forward to supporting their journey in performance analysis, injury prevention, and biomechanical research.
